I can sit and think for hours. I can ruminate with the best of them. I can dream and I can plan. But the harsh reality is that dreaming and thinking is never enough.
One of the most frustrating parts about personal leadership is that you have no one to blame but yourself. Your shortcomings and your failures are a reflection of the actions that were not taken.
If I can get real for a moment, that feels like my entire life. I have read the books, listened to the podcasts, read the blogs, but fortune favors the bold and I have fallen short on my boldness.
So where do we go from here?
Well, the only thing that works…is work.
It’s one thing to constantly think about things you want to do and get better at, it’s another thing completely to put it into practice.
I have ambition that has fully processed ideas. It has run numbers and ads. It has quotes and merchandise. But it’s missing one thing: reality.
Ambition is beautiful but preparation and action are what give it teeth. If ambition is fuel, then preparation and action are the engine and ignition. You can store all the fuel you want but if you don’t put it to work it just sits there until it goes bad.
And I don’t know about you but I am tired of my ambition going bad. I’ve had the ideas. There is so much fear in putting your work out into the ether.
But the world should not be robbed of ideas. In fact, I am growing more convinced that the world is waiting for new ideas.
So for me? I’ll be working on my projects.
So what have you been dreaming of working on that you’ve refused to take a step in?
